It's a special week for P.G. Wodehouse fans. June 26th will mark years since the first Blandings story, Something Fresh, was serialised in the 'Saturday Evening Post'.It was published in book form in September that year (in the U.S. as Something New).. If Wodehouse had not gone on to write more Blandings stories, Something Fresh would be highly-regarded as a fine comic novel. Ashe and Joan get together and both go to work for Peters. Like most of his lightly comic novels, P. G. Wodehouse's Something Fresh is incredibly convoluted to explain but an utter delight to read. This was the first of the Blandings Castle stories and Wodehouse would write another 10 books and numerous short stories in the setting.

First published in , Something Fresh was Wodehouse's first foray into Blandings territory. Where later stories in the series would centre on Lord Emsworth and his prize pig, Empress of Blandings, at this stage, Emsworth is little more than a background character, however well-drawn, for the story of how Ashe Marson and Joan Valentine come together in their attempts to recover Mr Peters's prize scarab. Something fresh by Wodehouse, P. G. (Pelham Grenville), Publication date Topics Blandings Castle (England: Imaginary place) -- Fiction, Humour. Something New () is the first installment of P. G. Wodehouse's Blandings Castle stories. This story follows Ashe Marson into the drafty halls of Blandings Castle, where he will try to make "something new" of his life by purloining a rare Egyptian scarab — all for the best motives, of course.
